Report of Symcharcha-The Annual Inter-Collegiate Debate Competition 2019-2020
Symcharcha-The Annual Inter-Collegiate Debate Competition 2019-2020 was organised by SYMVAAD- The Debating Society of Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies, NOIDA on 17th and 18th January 2020. The event is amongst one of the flagship events of SCMS, NOIDA. It was the 5th edition of Symcharcha-The Annual Inter-Collegiate Debate Competition this year which was organised at a level never like before.
This year Symcharcha followed the "Asian Parliamentary Debating" format wherein there were three members in each of the teams.
This time we opened doors to adjudicators to participate and compete amongst each other.
We were able to put up as high as 64 teams which makesSymcharcha-The Annual Inter-Collegiate Debate Competitionas one of the highest teams accommodating competition in the debating circuit all over India. The competition received an overwhelming response from the participants in India and abroad. We were also able to source applications from 81 adjudicators as well who participated and competed forBest Adjudicator’sposition.

The two days event uncovered as follows-
The first day of the event was kick-started by lamp lightening by the Director, Dr. Anubha Vashisth, Chief Guest Ms. Neelu Vyas Thomas along with the members of the SYMVAAD-The Debating Society of SCMS, NOIDA and the delegates of the event which was followed by playing
an inaugural video of 3 minutes prepared by the debating society which showed highlights of previous events of the debating society.
The lamp lighting was followed by the welcome address of the Director,wherein she talked about the role and importance of debating and how it provides food for thought and improves the overall personality of the person. It was followed by an address by the Honorable Chief Guest Ms. Neelu Vyas Thomas who is a Senior Consultant Rajya Sabha Television, Anchor & Editor Current Affairs Satyahindi.com. She talked about the relevance of debating in today’s era and insists on the right way of debating and asked participants to highlight the matters of concerns regarding country and need of time.
The Faculty In-charge of SYMVAAD-The Debating Society of SCMS, NOIDA Prof. Narendra Singh Chaudhary shared the report of the society and talked about the various achievements of the society and welcomed the delegates to the event. The Student Coordinator Ms. Rakshita Kochhar along with Additional Coordinators Mr. RaviKiran Reddy and Ms. Yoshita Pathania addressed the participants and talked about their journey within the debating society and the activities carried out by them in the society and briefed the participants about the rules and regulations. This way inaugural concluded and paved the way for the first two preliminary rounds of debating competition.
The second day started with the third round of debating competition post which breaks were released and qualified teams were put forth for Quarter Finals followed by Semi-Finals and Finals respectively. The tournament was judged by 81 participating, 7 Invited and 3 Alumni Adjudicators. A Cash Prize worth Rs. 50,000 was distributed amongst the winners. The First Prize worth Rs. 18000 was bagged by Ashoka University;Second prize worth Rs.12000 was won by Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Delhi University and Third prize money worth Rs.10000 was claimed by Delhi College of Arts and Commerce. The Best Speaker award worth Rs.7000 was won by Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Delhi University. The Best Adjudicator award worth Rs. 5000 was won by Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi.
The closing ceremony started the closing video and a prize distribution along with felicitation of alumni who were invited as Invited Adjudicators. The alumni congratulated the organizing team for organizing a successful event and shared their experiences of the event and college. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the Faculty In-charge and Student Coordinator Ms. Rakshita Kochhar of SYMVAAD-The Debating Society of SCMS, NOIDA and Symcharcha-The Annual Inter-Collegiate Debate Competition followed by a high tea.
